Session One: January 28, 2013

1. Pre-Assessment Technology Survey
Complete the technology survey to provide information on your current technology skills.

2. Introductory Video Message
Create a one-minute EyeJot video message introducing yourself. This will require you to have access to a computer with a camera and microphone. Send your message to my email account: nkendall@tnstate.edu OR kendallnm@gmail.com You will receive a reply from me, if this task is completed successfully.

3. Case Study: Choose between ONE (1) of the case studies to discuss.

Text Messaging & Its Effects on Teens' Grammar
Respond to the discussion questions regarding Carol and Chase. Make sure you incorporate any background and/or supporting research in your answers---cited appropriately in APA format.

Podcasting: Learning on the Go
Respond to the discussion questions regarding learning on the go. Make sure you incorporate any background and/or supporting research in your answers---cited appropriately in APA format.

4. Blogger Reflection #1
Review the statement and submit your response on Blogger. Make sure you offer sufficient depth that is indicative of college writing and academic/practitioner value.

Session Two: February 4, 2013

5. Unit Rationale
As a future educator, you need to decide a focus topic for this course. Please go to the Tennessee Department of Education site to review curriculum standards. Before you select a unit of study, consider what students would be learning during this time of the year, prior skills that tie into your unit, and learning outcomes. Your proposal should address four (4) key components: the problem, learner, society, and subject matter.

6. Wordle
Wordle is a tool for generating "word clouds" from key words and themes that you provide. Create a visual mural to support the essential concepts of your unit. Use at least ten (10) words that connect to your curriculum topic. *Make sure that you save to the Wordle gallery and provide me with the URL.

Session Three: February 11, 2013

7. Media Share I (videos/podcasts)
Locate three (3) multimedia resources that support your unit. You can select from videos or podcasts. Make sure that you include an instructional impact for teaching and learning for each resource
. All resources should be in APA format.

8. Case Study: Choose between ONE (1) of the case studies to discuss.

Ups and Downs of Social Networking
Respond to the discussion questions regarding Natalie's Nightmare. Make sure you incorporate any background and/or supporting research in your answers---cited appropriately in APA format.

Cyberbullying
Respond to the four (4) discussion questions regarding Sarah's secret. Make sure you incorporate any background and/or supporting research in your answers---cited appropriately in APA format.

Session Four: February 18, 2013

9. Opening Commercial
You will create an opening podcast commercial, using Audacity, to introduce your unit to your designated grade level. This should be an engaging 45 secs. - 1 minute recording to build interest. Be clever, clear, concise, and (yes)creative. A gimmick is great, but make sure it is a theme that is age/grade level appropriate.*Remember to REFRAIN from using your name in the recording.

10. A Fair(y) Use Tale
Review the video and discuss its importance towards the understanding of copyright guidelines for students and teachers. *Make sure you make connections from the text, as well. Click here for the video transcript.

 

Session Five: February 25, 2013

11. Glogster
Create an interactive poster for your curriculum topic. Your display must include your opening commercial, three (3) content-related videos, and at least five (5) images/graphics. Make sure that your poster is age-appropriate, visually appealing, and connects to the goals of your rationale.
